Wellbeing Support

At Wiltshire Council, we recognise the importance of strong support for foster carers. Through therapeutic parenting, counselling services, tailored training, and peer support groups, we ensure carers feel valued and equipped to provide safe, nurturing homes for children.

Supporting foster carers to remain resilient

Fostering is rewarding but can also be emotionally challenging. Our Placement Therapists work closely with carers to support children's needs, while initiatives like the TRiM (Trauma Risk Management) programme offer confidential support, advice, and guidance to foster carers facing challenging experiences, past or present. This helps carers build resilience, enabling them to better support themselves, their families, and the children in their care.

In 2025, we will launch a pilot programme to extend access to counselling services for our foster carers. This initiative will offer carers who need additional support the opportunity to meet with an independent, accredited counsellor, provided through Wiltshire Council's Occupational Health department.

Support groups

We host various in-person and virtual support groups across the county. These sessions provide opportunities for carers to share experiences, gain advice, and connect with others. These range from informal chats to topic-focused sessions for new and experienced carers alike.
